Our Story
In 1996, Dr. Chetty embarked on a bold mission to impact the community of Dawn Park straight out of bible school. With a heart full of zeal and a desire to make a difference, he started a ministry in the shopping center. Just a few months later, the ministry moved into a single garage belonging to one of our members. For about a year, this humble garage served as our church, where we gathered with a congregation primarily made up of children who didn't speak or understand English.
As we poured our hearts into ministering to these children, something remarkable began to happen. Their parents and other members of the community took notice of the positive impact we were having, and they started to join us in our gatherings. From the garage, we purchased our first tent, and eventually, we acquired land in Dawn Park where we built our first church. Over the next 28 years, we've continued to serve in the community of Dawn Park, witnessing the growth of our congregation as we watched children grow up and start families of their own.
Our reputation as a teaching church began to spread, attracting a diverse group of individuals hungry for the truth of God's Word. We were approached by a group of elderly African traditional pastors seeking to deepen their understanding of Scripture, and thus our journey of equipping others began. Every Thursday, approximately 40 pastors would gather as we trained them in rightly dividing the word of truth.
From these humble beginnings, the vision for EQUIP School of Ministry was born. We expanded our training efforts to include pastors and leaders from various backgrounds, and eventually, we established the EQUIP School of Ministry. Today, we have campuses in Gauteng, as well as two in Mpumalanga and one in Venda.
Our journey has led us to a new chapter as we've recently purchased a 4-hectare piece of land, where we are currently building our Gauteng campus. Our vision for EQUIP is to continue equipping leaders with the sound biblical teaching they need to impact their communities and transform nations for the glory of God. Through our ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching and ministry, we are confident that we will continue to make a lasting impact for generations to come.
